Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh

What is Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh?

A Traditional Music School which, over a period of five days, concentrates on the style of music and song traditional to the Dingle Peninsula gaeltacht of Corca Dhuibhne.

The school encourages those who wish to learn about the West Kerry style of music, song and dance, wherever in the world they come from, and gives people the opportunity to taste the unique wealth and breadth of the musical tradition handed down from generation to generation.

It gives recognition to those who went before, handing down their unwritten riches, while encouraging new generations to begin their own musical journeys.

Local, national and international musicians come together for the concerts. Learners mix with established artists to make music, song and dance, and to enjoy the special atmosphere of this part of the world where traditions lost to others are a part of daily life.

What is Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh

A look back at 2007

The Music of Chorca Dhuibhne

We hold traditional music classes
in 9 instruments, concerts, a lecture, a singers night, historical walk, sean-nós dance workshop, sean-nós singing workshops, sessions, recitals and more, over the 5 day festival.

This year, we have a couple of new events planned, including a set dance workshop, an informal Irish conversation group in the west Kerry dialect and a bagpipe workshop with the celebrated Allan MacDonald from Scotland.

2008 is our fourth year, and as always, our aim is to encourage and inspire people towards music, emphasise the West Kerry tunes and style in our classes, give recognition to those who passed on the tunes, and the love of music to the current generations of musicians and more than anything, we hope everyone enjoys the music, the atmosphere and the company, because if they don’t we might as well just stay at home!

If you feel like listening, or picking up a tune, a song or a dance in the West Kerry Gaeltacht, you’re more than welcome to join us!
