Charlie Harris
Charlie Harris lives in Co. Galway but is originally from Co. Limerick. He started on the tin whistle and single row melodeon, but switched over to the two row accordion pitched in C#/D on the advice of Galway box player Raymond Roland whilst living in England. On his return to Ireland Charlie joined and played with the Shaskeen Céilí Band up until his departure in 1995.
For many years Charlie and his great friend Des Mulkere have played at countless sessions and Set Dances in counties Clare and Galway.
Charlie counts Joe Cooley and P.J. Conlon as his biggest accordion and melodeon influences with Jack Doyle and Billy Caples his main link to the old masters of the 78’R.P.M. recording era.
Charlie was the 2009 recipient of the TG4 Gradam Ceol musician of the year award and can be heard performing regularly with Des Mulkere, Pat O’Connor, Maeve Donnelly and Eamon and Geraldine Cotter, amongst many others.
